A few weeks ago, we looked at the budding movement in leadership that focuses on placing people before profit and how, ironically, that yields greater profit.
This movement is expanding. It is exemplified in the tenants of Conscious Capitalism, a movement started by the founder of Whole Foods. Today, I am sharing my White Paper on the Future of Leadership, and how leadership coaches are helping shape a much more positive future! Wondering if Leaders Need Your Coaching Services? Wonder no more. They do. In my white paper, we will uncover the bigger picture implications of how coaching is profoundly shaping the future. We will cover: 1) how humanity is faced with large scale impact in current times, 2) what leaders are up against, 3) how coaching leverages leaders through hardships, and 4) what effective executive coaching encompasses. We will also cover how the Institute for Integrative Coach Training is taking a stand for a better future by training professional coaches to leave a legacy with the work they do. They are a fast track to self-deception, miscommunications, and misunderstandings. In coaching, assumptions eclipse our efficacy.
Practicing how to deliver factual observations versus an evaluation of something is a powerful way to nip assumptions in the bud. It can be easier said than done though. We think in evaluative language, and communicating through evaluations is the default way for most. Certified Life Coach, Fanie Zis, wrote a great overview of how assumptions show up in coaching, and how to avoid assumptions, so that we can be more present to our client's needs. “Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won’t come in.” ― Isaac Asimov "Assumptions are everywhere, and we use them every day. Our brains are hardwired to assume – it saves energy so that our brain can focus on other areas it deems more important for our survival. "We make assumptions at both a conscious and subconscious level about both our inner and outer world. Our types of assumptions can range from our perception of how the world works (e.g., you may assume the sun will rise tomorrow and then assume you live to see it), about people (you may assume that someone may react a certain way in a given situation) and assumptions about ourselves. "But what happens when you make assumptions in your coaching sessions? How does this affect the coaching relationship and what can you do about it?" This article will look at the use and potential dangers of assumptions in coaching. We’ll explore some examples of common assumptions as well as strategies to help you work on reducing their use in your coaching sessions." ......................................... Have you ever worked for a leader or manager who inspired you? It is ironic that companies focus on the bottom line and miss the fact that the entire organization is there for people and by people. Business is all about the people... a business serves. In a world that has been primarily profit centered, there are movements in leadership where this is being actively reversed. A new emphasis is being placed on people first and profit second. Interestingly enough, as we do this, we invite dignity and respect into the picture. When people feel dignity and respect, they feel proud to go to work. When people feel proud to go to work, they stick around. When people stick around, the company has lower turnover. Lower turnover then saves the company thousands in lost profit, positively impacting the bottom line. Understanding this cycle of influence is the birthplace of Integrative Intelligence®. Clare Norman wrote the article entitled: Why Organizations Need Human Centered Leaders? In this article she wrote: "Businesses are run by human beings. They make operations smooth, create value for the company and its stakeholders, and make or break a business. It is odd then, that although so many companies talk about their people being their greatest asset, their actions do not always ring true. It is time we embraced more human-centered leadership to bring out the best in people. I realize that leaders have a dearth of time — well actually, that’s not true, it’s really a dearth of attention. If only leaders realize that investing time in conversations with their people would lead to the results that they currently focus most of their attention on, we’d all be better off! It’s not one or the other – human-centered leadership creates results, by engaging people in ways that motivate them. Now, in the midst of a global turmoil, this seems more pertinent than ever." For older generations, social media can be a thorn in our side. For others, it is a saving grace. For me... it's both! I often feel the pressure of learning more tricks and "getting it right." Other times, I am so grateful for the outreach and connection social media provides during Covid-19. One thing is certain, if you are going to develop a social media presence and community, you need consistency in the channels you choose. Social media is also the long-game. It produces results after care and consistency is applied, similar to growing a garden. Today, we are looking at "TikTok" as a new avenue to get your work out in the world. Ezraya Drumgo wrote the article entitled: How to Use TikTok to Promote the Power of Coaching "With two billion downloads globally, TikTok is currently the number one downloaded app across all compatible devices. With the dramatic increase in working from home these days, more people are spending time on this app looking for engaging content and ways to connect with others. "TikTok’s user–friendly accessibility; emphasis on short, candid videos; and large audience make it the perfect forum to share information about the ways coaches can help unlock their clients’ potential and help them achieve their dreams."
