Trick question. Does the sun rise or set each day?
According to our phenomenological centric language, yes.
Yet, in reality, the sun stays still while the earth turns around it.
In life, when a phenomenon happens our brain is wired to then interpret it. It is a "threat" or is it "friendly"? This interpretation of "its ok" or "it is a threat" forms a relationship to the phenomenon.
Yet, sometimes our interpretations can be inaccurate. Or, if we move too quickly to the "threat" box, we can lose sight of other aspects available to us that are lost in our interpretation.
Human beings have capacity to:
Mindfulness is a practice of calming the mind that allows us to see more clearly and gain access all aspects.
The Course in Miracles teaches that we can use anything for a greater good, no matter how horrible something is/was. Even in devastation, the human spirit can rise above and locate the opportunities to turn things around.
We saw this at 9/11. Families and communities didn't go isolate in fear, they came together and connected and supported each other. They took the opportunities out of the devastation.
We are seeing this now with Covid. Humanity pivoted.
I saw a video of families quarantined in a rustic city of Italy. They were isolated, lonely, scared and hurting. They took the opportunity, opened their windows and sang together during a very lonely and scary time. This brought them peace and connection during a very tumultuous time.
This is the beauty of our humanity, we have choice.
